Making movies at Mizzou

When most people hear “free wrestling at Mizzou,” they expect to walk into the Hearnes Center without a ticket. But Jeffrey Uhlmann, associate professor of computer science, brought lucha libre (Spanish for “free wrestling”) to MU with help from the FilmTech Experience class.

Mexican cult film actor and wrestler Mil Máscaras stars in Mil Máscaras: Aztec Revenge, which was shot almost entirely on campus. The movie is part three of a lucha libre trilogy written by Uhlmann, helmed by St. Louis director Aaron Crozier and created in part by MU students from various degree programs. Made possible by a grant from MU’s Interdisciplinary Innovation Fund, students worked on costumes, lighting, special effects and even blew up a car with help from the Columbia Fire Department.
