A variety of alumni and friends have been honored over the decades by being named grand marshal. This Mizzou tradition began in 1983, and past honorees are listed below.

2010, Russ Mitchell, BJ ’82, CBS Evening News Sunday Edition anchor

2009, Jon Sundvold, BS BA ’83, and Steve Stipanovich, BES ’89, former Tiger basketball legends and NBA players

2008, Juliet Huddy, BA ’92, former co-host of The Morning Show with Mike & Juliet

2007, Roger Wehrli, BS Ed ’70, former Tiger star who played with the football St. Louis Cardinals and was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame

2006, David Novak, BJ ’74, chairman and CEO of Yum! Brands Inc.

2005, Norm Stewart, BS Ed ’56, M Ed ’60, former Mizzou basketball coach from 1967–99, and Virginia Zimmerley Stewart, A&S ’56, 1955 Mizzou Homecoming queen

2004, Chuck Roberts, BJ ’71, former CNN Headline News anchor

2003, Sheryl Crow, BS Ed ’84, Grammy Award-winning singer

2002, John Anderson, BJ ’87, ESPN SportsCenter anchor

2001, Jann Carl, BJ ’82, former Entertainment Tonight weekend anchor

2000, John Gordon, BS ’68, former CIA deputy director and under secretary of energy for nuclear security and administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration

1999, Robert Loggia, BJ ’51, Academy Award-nominated actor, with Melodie Powell, BA ’77, JD ’81, attorney and 1999–2000 alumni association president, as acting grand marshal

1998, James Amos Jr., BA ’68, former CEO of Mail Boxes Etc. (currently CEO of Tasti D-Lite)

1997, Sonja Steptoe, BA, BJ ’82, former Sports Illustrated senior editor

1996, Guy “Bus” Entsminger, BS Ed ’49, M Ed ’50, the late Tiger football star and former MU vice chancellor for development and alumni relations

1995, Kellen Winslow, BES ’87, former Tiger football star who played with the San Diego Chargers and was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame

1994, Dan Devine, the late Mizzou head football coach from 1958–70 and MU athletics director from 1967–70, 1992–94

1993, Norris Stevenson, BS Ed ’61, M Ed ’63, and Melvin “Mel” West, BS Ed ’61, M Ed ’69, Mizzou’s first African-American football players

1992, Mort Walker, BA ’48, Beetle Bailey cartoonist

1991, Roger Wilson, M Ed ’86, former state senator who later served as Missouri’s lieutenant governor and governor

1990, Phil Bradley, BS BA ’82, former football and baseball star at Mizzou and All-Star outfielder for the Seattle Mariners

1989, Dick Richards, BS ChE ’69, former NASA astronaut (pilot of space shuttle Columbia), and Debbye Turner, DVM ’91, Miss America 1990

1988, Donald W. Reynolds, BJ ’27, the late founder of the Donrey Media Group and the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation Inc.

1987, Bob Broeg, BJ ’41, the late St. Louis Post-Dispatch sportswriter, known for coining the “Stan the Man” nickname for Cardinals baseball legend Stan Musial

1986, Tom Kennedy (known to classmates as Jim Narz), A&S ’51, former game show host of You Don’t Say!, Split Second, Name That Tune, Password Plus and a nighttime version of The Price Is Right

1985, Harold “Spider” Burke, BA ’54, former MU cheerleader

1984, Don Faurot, BS Ag ’25, MA ’27, the late Mizzou head football coach from 1935–56

1983, Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, BA ’69, creator/writer of Designing Women and Evening Shade
