Growing their own food

Columbians Carl Korschgen, BA ’70, MA ’72, and his wife, Ann Korschgen, BA ’71, have grown their own food for 38 years. They tend gardens, orchards and chickens on five acres that supply the bulk of their food. Carl is the tree expert. In addition to growing conifer and fruit trees, he planted 30 Chinese chestnut trees four years ago. Ann, vice provost of Enrollment Management at Mizzou, enjoys being outdoors gardening and tending their 14 red and black chickens. For the Korschgens, growing food just makes common sense.
