A former Mizzou soccer player now carries the title, “Mrs. America.” Andrea Robertson, BS ’99, of O’Fallon, Mo., was crowned after winning the Mrs. America pageant Sept. 8, 2009, in Tucson, Ariz.

“It was down to me and Mrs. Minnesota,” Robertson says. “I was up against this person that I really, really like. We spent the whole week together, and I thought her [competition] answers were so good that I had convinced myself she was going to win.”

As Mrs. America, Robertson travels to Vietnam in November to compete in the international Mrs. World competition and will spend the next year speaking on behalf of the Mrs. America organization at special events across the country. She is also ambassador for the Women’s Sports Foundation, which encourages females to get involved in athletics.

“I learned a lot of life lessons as a student athlete at Mizzou,” says Robertson, who was a member of MU’s first varsity women’s soccer team from 1996 until she graduated and is now a competitive triathlete.  “It was my first taste of having to balance everything in my life and trying to accomplish everything at once.”

Robertson returns to MU Oct. 24 to participate in the Homecoming parade and to make an appearance at halftime, after the Tigers kick off against the Texas Longhorns.
