If it seems like the Mizzou wheelchair basketball team keeps getting better and better, it’s because they are.

The 2009–10 Tigers easily handled the Kansas City Thunder club in a Nov. 8, 2009, double-header at historic Brewer Fieldhouse inside MizzouRec. Led by freshmen forwards Jake Wiig with 16 points and Connor Downes with 15, Missouri defeated the Thunder 76-27 in game one. Mizzou won by 49 points again in the second game 61-12 to start the season 4-0.

The Tigers opened the 2009–10 campaign the previous weekend with a pair of victories over the St. Louis Rolling Rams club 66-33 and 60-23. It’s the second straight 4-0 start for an MU program that has improved upon its win total every season of its five-year existence.

But if Mizzou hopes to break its school-record 25-win mark from 2008–09, it will face a tough schedule fraught with Division-I, -II and -III opponents. With four-time All-American senior guard John Gilbert running the offense, the Tigers like their chances.

The team hosts a doubleheader versus the University of Kansas Wheelhawks at 10:30 Dec. 5, and travels to the Pittsburg (Kan.) State Gorilla Invitational Dec. 19–20.
